How to Use an Online Stopwatch with Lap Timing
Your phone has a stopwatch, but it is buried in the clock app, competes with notifications, and usually lacks lap timing. An online stopwatch solves all three problems: it opens instantly in any browser, runs distraction-free, and captures splits with millisecond precision.
Core features
The ToolStand Stopwatch shows elapsed time with millisecond accuracy. Press Start to begin, Lap to capture a split time without stopping, and Stop to freeze the display. Each lap is recorded in a scrollable list below the main timer, so you can compare times across multiple segments. Reset clears everything for a fresh run.
Use cases beyond sports
Presentations. Time each section of your talk โ intro, main content, Q&A โ using lap splits to stay on schedule without watching the clock. Cooking. Multi-dish meals need staggered timing. Use laps for when you start boiling pasta vs. when you flip the steak. Pomodoro variations. Track actual focused time vs. break time within sessions. Billable hours. Freelancers can use the stopwatch to track time per client, with laps for individual tasks within a project.
Accuracy notes
The stopwatch uses setInterval with drift correction, meaning it stays accurate even over long durations. Browser throttling in background tabs can affect timing, so keep the stopwatch in a visible tab for critical measurements. For sub-second precision (reaction time testing), use the Reaction Time Test instead.
