📋 When to Use the PDF Split
The PDF Split is perfect for anyone who works with documents regularly — whether you're combining reports, splitting chapters, or converting files for sharing. Use it when you need to process PDFs quickly without installing Adobe Acrobat or uploading sensitive documents to unknown cloud services. All processing happens in your browser, so confidential documents stay private. Great for business, academic, and personal use.
⚙️ How the PDF Split Works
The PDF Split processes PDF files entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript libraries. When you select or drag-and-drop PDF files, the browser reads them using the File API and processes them using PDF manipulation libraries (PDF-lib, jsPDF, PDF.js). Operations like merging, splitting, or converting happen locally — your documents are never uploaded to any server. The processed file is then offered for download. For privacy, all temporary data is cleared when you close the tab.
How to Use the PDF Split Tool
- Upload your PDF — Click the upload area or drag and drop your PDF file.
- Choose your split method — Enter custom page ranges (e.g., "1-3, 5, 7-10") or choose to extract every page as a separate PDF.
- Click Split — Press the "Split PDF" button and watch as your document is separated into individual files.
- Download your files — Each split PDF will appear with its own download button. You can download them individually or as a ZIP file.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do page ranges work?
Enter page numbers separated by commas. Use hyphens for ranges. For example: "1-5, 8, 10-15" extracts pages 1 through 5, page 8, and pages 10 through 15. Page numbers start at 1.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF Split tool works entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to any server — all processing happens locally on your device.
Can I split password-protected PDFs?
Currently, the tool works best with unprotected PDFs. Password-protected files may not be processable in the browser version.
What's the maximum file size I can split?
There's no hard limit, but very large files (100MB+) may be slow. For best results, we recommend files under 50MB.
